Classic English Breakfast Tea

This is the classic version of English Breakfast tea. A blend of black teas, usually of Assam CTC and Ceylon Orthodox teas. The Motley Brew version is a robust, full-bodied, Assam second flush tea with a splattering of well-rolled, long-leaf high elevation orthodox teas from the Nilgiris with some tippy Darjeeling as well. Strong and brisk on the palate, with sweet, malty tones, it lends itself well to milk and sugar, which are a classic pairing combination for tea. Our interpretation of a classic seeks to keep its originality intact, yet enhance the flavour irrespective of whether consumed with or without milk. Rich in Theanine and moderate in Caffeine, they also make the perfect start to the day.

HOW TO BREW

1. Bring unfiltered water to a gentle boil to approximately 90 deg. Celsius (208 deg. Fah.).
2. Place 1 tsp. tea (2.5 gms. approx.) per cup in a pre-heated teapot, and pour the water from above.
3. In case of several cups, add a tsp. extra for the pot. Steep for 4-5 mins as per taste.
4. Tastes best with just a tsp. of milk, or as desired.
5. Add sugar, or sweetener only if desired.

ENHANCE THE FLAVOUR

Add a spot of milk, and sugar/sweetener for a perfect after-meal ‘dessert’ tea. Add a few drops of lemon to the infusion alone, watch the colour change, and enjoy the freshness of lemon and tea together. Best post a hearty meal.

FOOD PAIRING

An ideal accompaniment to a hearty English or Indian breakfast. Freshly baked bread/croissants with a dab of butter and strawberry jam. Buttery cookies

As with all black teas, this tea contains natural anti-oxidants referred to as flavonoids, which help fight free radicals in the body. A high percentage of catechins are present in black tea which boosts energy and improve metabolism. 

Black teas contain a good portion of potassium, which is known to improve hydration, reduce fatigue and improve energy. Traces of manganese are also present which help bone density. As with any natural product, taken in moderation, black teas add to the overall well-being of a person, keeping them naturally alert and vibrant with a sense of calm.
