Shade grown in the higher elevations from the heartland of the Coorg district and naturally cured by the Arabian Sea post harvest, this hand-picked, washed Arabica coffee is unique in its flavour profile.
A mellow, full-bodied coffee with Spicy, Musty, and Woody intones due to the monsooning process. Pronounced flavours of chocolate and nuts, and noticed a hint of malt.
Born out of an accident, it is said that a consignment of coffee en route to Europe was subject to a heavy storm around the Cape of Good Hope. The wet coffee was dried on the deck and the resultant coffee grew in appreciation from its customers, particularly from Scandinavia, thus giving birth to another quintessentially Indian story; The Monsooned Malabar coffee or Malabar Monsoon coffee as many call it.
The process itself is akin to fermentation. Washed and sun-dried coffee is stored carefully and then exposed to the salt-laden monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea in the processing factories based in the Malabar Coast. The same is sun-dried again and packed.
This unique process results in a coffee like none other. An acquired taste for many, most coffee lovers swear by the intensely flavourful, strong, full bodied cup. The exposure to monsoon winds and the aging process removes almost all of the normal acidic qualities of the coffee and results in a heady flavour long after it has been consumed.
